What is the difference between 4 Hour and 12 Huor RADEP

(Reckless and Aggressive Driver Education)

Courses in Virginia boil down to your prior coursework. The full RADEP requirement is 12 hours, but the 4-hour course is a specialized add-on designed only for drivers who have already completed the 8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic.

A more detailed breakdown of the difference:
12-Hour RADEP (Full Program): This is the total requirement ordered by Virginia judges for individuals cited with reckless or aggressive driving.

It is a two-part program:

Part 1: An 8-hour standard Driver Improvement Clinic covering defensive driving and traffic laws.

Part 2: A 4-hour specialized Reckless and Aggressive Driver course focusing on anger management, emotional regulation, and avoiding road rage.

4-Hour RADEP (Add-On Only): This course contains only the specialized 4-hour segment on reckless and aggressive driving behavior. You can only take this if your judge explicitly allows it and you have already completed an 8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic either recently or in the past. If you are a court-ordered driver who has not recently taken a driver improvement course, you will need to enroll in the full 12-hour program.
